about indexhibit

Hello everyone,

I am trying to figure out how to use indexhibit~ I have some questions for it.

If anyone knows how to do it, plz tell me.

That is my current situation

1) I have a domain name

2) I have host with dreamhost ( I paid $9 to have it for one year, but they don't provide the database.(mysql)~if i want to get mysql in dreamhost, I need to pay

monthly ($10.95/mo, $49.95 set up fee)

yearly ($9.95/mo, the $49.95 set up fee will be waived)

which is too expensive. Is there anyway to get mysql with lower price?)

3) I want to design with Indexhibit but I can't find where to install the software / sample

4) I don't know how to upload with syberduck

Hello, I have been searching the projector for a lot of days. I asked the guys in Apple store to see if I can buy it and return it. The answer is NO. They said once I open it, the bulb will be used. That's why I can not return. Tow projectors are more than $1000. I might not be able to afford that.

To Bianca,

Could I borrow your projector for 1 hr( or less) tomorrow morning. Just to project the movie on the wall of the entrance wall and take the pictures.

To Carolina,

I went to the equipment room to borrow the project. They said they only check it out for instructor. Could you help me to borrow it tomorrow morning and I will return it as soon as passible once I take all the pictures.

—a small artist statement——small type——

—location / time / day of event (put your location, time frame, day: we;ll use the same once we have the installation paperwork done)
—url to your website (can be placeholder for now)

LOGO: make small revisions / variations based on today's critique and the selected direction

INSTALLATIONS: continue refining your installations. Just wrote for permissions, so aim at having it done and in full glory by week 10 (expected week of install)
— document your piece as you test it, these images will be content for the book / website


ALTERNATE MEDIA PIECE: keep working on it: bring in a full representation of the concept in this new media. So for eg: iphone app, bring in a 'storyboard' that outlines the usage process, what happens when (aka: sequential design)

WEBSITE: www.indexhibit.org: get familiar with it. Use Dreamhost as host, they are great & friendly. The website's purpose is to showcase the project as a whole, a sort of documentation / representation of the project's concept and execution. Inlcude all media: installation pics, installation media (eg: video), alternate media (iphone app, online video, etc), book pics —once it's done and bound— & process: how you got there


BOOK:
—chose one format
— 5 spreads studying this one format's structure (aka: grid) through body copy, folios and chapter heds (3 main typologies)
— grid: system of information & sequence: main components: margin size, gutters, number of columns, number of rows
—body copy: place body copy on grid variations with other 2 typologies / one typeface and point size per design (egL: one layout is 4 columns, even margins, set in times 9/12——the other 5 columns, wider margins on top & bottom, set in helvtica 8/11 etc)

• permits from los angeles city to project the metro riders images and installation messages (type) to adjacent buildings after 6pm.

• permission to use footage (video & photography) of 7th st metro station from city of los angeles and posting of print materials in the station.

• permits from building owners to project imagery and messages

• projectors (large scale), a total of 6 machines are needed to work simultaneously

• los angeles metro, creation of cell phone ticketing software purchase via text

• los angeles metro, creation of tickets and day pass cards that will house the hidden message

• access to los angeles metro identity assets permission for use in project

a way of making sound

check this out, this is pretty interesting. Not much to do with type, but definitely sound.

The ink wash technique?

Can someone tell me again where to get the 'rice paper' material that allows me to water spray on it and then disappears in 10 seconds or so? The material that was recommended to me in class discussion last week?


I've also been having a hard time finding out more information about the technique of ink wash (or ink pattern) that traces the motion of finger. I think I am just not knowing the correct name for it. If anyone knows, that would be helpful. Thanks
